Puerto Vallarta’s Playa de Oro is nearing the final stages of obtaining White Flag certification, a prestigious recognition of its environmental quality and sustainability. As part of the process, the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Conformity Assessment (IMEEC) has commenced its final evaluation, which will span March 11th through 13th.
Councilman Christian Omar Bravo Carbajal, president of the Clean, Free, and Certified Beaches Commission, confirmed that the assessment focuses on key aspects such as water quality, environmental infrastructure, and waste management.
The White Flag, a symbol of superior beach quality and ecological responsibility, represents a major stride in solidifying Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as a premier tourist destination. This certification validates local authorities’ dedication and underscores the vital role of community involvement.
In anticipation of the IMEEC’s inspection, a large-scale beach cleanup, organized by Council Members Víctor Bernal and Erika García, mobilized over 300 volunteers. The collective effort, drawing support from the Directorate of Efficient Services, Ecology, Environment, the National Guard, the 41st Military Zone, and the Rehabilita Vallarta Network, resulted in the removal of an impressive six tons of waste.
