Vallarta’s Monumental Catrina Will Seek To Break Guinness Record
The almost 16-meter-tall Catrina that was installed on the Puerto Vallarta Malecón as part of the city’s Day of the Dead celebrations has attracted so much positive attention that, next year, the municipal government will seek to break the Guinness record in the ‘Largest Catrina In The World’ category.
According to Ludwig Estrada Virgen, municipal director of Tourism, the “Pretty in Pink” Catrina that rises to a height of more than 50 feet was made by personnel from the municipality of Zapotlanejo, who already have extensive experience in this type of performance.
In fact, the Guinness record for “The Largest Catrina In The World,” at 18 meters high, belongs to the municipality of Zapotlanejo, Jalisco.
AN ATTEMPT TO BREAK THE GUINNESS RECORD
Estrada Virgen explained that the idea for 2022 is to mount a 25-meter-high Catrina in order to break the current Guinness record and put Puerto Vallarta on the pages of the famous book that is published every year and distributed throughout the world.
The Catrina mounted this year on the Malecón in downtown Puerto Vallarta, dressed in a large round hat and a pink dress, has caused admiration and sensation among local inhabitants and tourists, both national and foreign, who have had the opportunity to see this imposing artistic work in person.
The monumental Catrina and the rest of the catrinas, calveritas (skulls) and ofrendas (altars) that were installed on October 31 and inaugurated by Puerto Vallarta Mayor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez on November 1st, will remain on display through Sunday, November 7, when the city’s Day of the Dead Festival ends. https://banderasnews.com/ Source: Vallarta Opina
