Vallarta Launches Campaign to Beautify Historic Center

The municipal government of Puerto Vallarta will start the “Fachada Vallartense” project this week to enhance and beautify the Historic Center. Interim Mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil announced the campaign at a press conference, sharing agreements with residents, merchants, and business owners to comply with the city’s Image and Identity Regulations.

Accompanied by key officials, including the Director of Tourism and Economic Development, Christian Preciado Cázares, and Dr. Jimena Vanina Odetti from the Instituto Tecnológico Superior, the mayor emphasized the campaign’s goal: to encourage locals to improve their facades using a diverse palette of colors developed by Dr. Odetti in collaboration with Benjamin Moore. The palette includes twenty shades based on terracotta, maintaining the center’s traditional identity.

Christian Preciado highlighted the year-long efforts involving consultations with community members to refine the urban image based on updated regulations in 2018. These guidelines state that the Historic Center’s predominant color should be white, with terracotta accents and traditional roof tiles.

The Historic Center, comprising 81 blocks and 26 streets, has 1,470 inhabited houses and 249 abandoned properties. The campaign will include house-to-house visits to raise awareness and support for the project. Officials aim to locate the owners of abandoned buildings to ensure compliance and improve the area’s appearance.

Deputy Director of Inspection and Regulations, Omar Guerra, assured that businesses will adhere to visual image rules. He noted the municipal government’s example in enhancing their facades, aiming for a revitalized city look by October or November.

Jesús Palacios Bernal, president of the Unión de Fincas Urbanas del Centro, commended the mayor’s dedication to the beautification efforts, emphasizing the collective responsibility of citizens and authorities.  https://banderasnews.com/
