Vallarta Half Marathon and Recreational Race Exceeds Expectations
The Tenth SEAPAL Vallarta Half Marathon and XX Recreational Race, held last Sunday in the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone, exceeded expectations with more than 700 runners from the Banderas Bay area, various states of the Mexican Republic, and several other countries, participating.
The traditional sports event was the perfect way to close a week of activities in commemoration of ‘World Water Day 2022’, with the aim of promoting and raising awareness about the importance of conserving this vital liquid.
The competition offered more than $200,000 pesos in cash prizes to the winners, in addition to medals and awards for all participants.
The race began at 7:00 a.m., starting from Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue in front of the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Unit, where the finish line was also located, and where crowds gathered to cheer on the runners and celebrate their victory in meeting personal goals.
In the men’s branch of the half marathon, the victory went to Musa Kanyugi, with a time of 1:05:40; Naege Stephen, registered the same time to take second place, and Israel Vázquez won third place with a running time of 1:06:20.
In the women’s branch of 21 the kilometers race, Isabel Oropeza Vázquez was the winner with a time of 1:12:06; Claudia Escalera Hernández came in second with 1:25:12; while Yesica Lorena Escamilla Alanís closed the podium positions clocking 1:32:19.
Iván García Quintero made the best time in the Men’s Recreational Race, completing the route in 15 minutes and 25 seconds, Jonatan Ortega came in second with 15 minutes and 46 seconds and Jesús Clemente Rodríguez took third place with a time of 15 minutes and 47 seconds.
While, in the ladies branch of the 5 kilometers recreational race, Guadalupe Jazmín Aguilar Corona climbed to the top of the podium with a time of 17 minutes and 02 seconds, followed by Fanny Jaqueline Oropeza Vázquez with a time of 18 minutes and 50 seconds, and Gabriela Villegas Mendiol crossed the finish line in the third position with a running time of 21 minutes and 23 seconds.
The award ceremony was led by the Director of Municipal Tourism, José Ludvig Estrada Virgen, and Councilman José Rodríguez González, who congratulated the participants for their effort that contributes to creating awareness about the proper use and care of our water supply.
It should be noted that the development of the race was supported in terms of logistics and security by elements of the Municipal Transit and Civil Protection Departments, the Mexican Red Cross, and other institutions that joined in the celebration of this great event, following all the protocols and measures to safeguard the integrity of athletes and the general public.
