The Vallarta Azteca Folklore Group is once again captivating audiences with their 23rd national tour, which began on July 17 and continues through August 4. Led by maestro Antonio Salcedo, the 42-member troupe is performing in nine states, showcasing the rich traditions of Puerto Vallarta and Jalisco through their acclaimed show, Orgullo por Jalisco (Pride for Jalisco).
Established in 2003 at the CECYTEJ Puerto Vallarta campus, the group quickly gained recognition for its exceptional talent, earning top honors in state and national dance competitions. Maestro Salcedo, who now dedicates himself full-time to leading the troupe, has been instrumental in their rise to prominence. Over the years, he has guided them through numerous performances across Mexico, Canada, Cuba, Argentina, Europe, and South America. Today, the group is widely recognized as a cultural ambassador of the region.
The current tour includes stops in Guanajuato, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, Tabasco, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Oaxaca, Puebla, and Michoacán. With their performance, “Pride for Jalisco,” they are sharing the deep soul, passion, and traditions of their state with every move. Through the sounds of mariachi and traditional Jalisco sones, they are undoubtedly leaving a lasting impression across the country.
The “Pride for Jalisco” show is a dynamic program that expertly narrates the state’s history through dance. It commences with the ancient Wixárika (Huichol) dances, followed by a diverse array of sones, including serranos, rancheros, and caporales.
In the segment “Jalisco de Gala,” the dancers enchant the audience with performances of Son de la Culebra and El Gavilancillo. The show culminates with “Jalisco Contemporáneo,” where the group demonstrates remarkable synchronicity, rhythm, joy, and strength with numbers such as Las Alazanas, El Tranchete, and Son de la Negra. The grand finale features the beloved national dance, the Jarabe Tapatío, bringing the performance to a triumphant close.
Beyond touring, Vallarta Azteca also organizes the Vallarta Azteca International Folkloric Dance Festival and runs a private school in El Pitillal, offering classes to dancers of all ages.
