During the summer months May to the end of October in Puerto Vallarta many guests ask if the climate is affected by hurricanes that come up from the Pacific coastline. Considered to be the most reliable globally climate classification system, The Koppen-Geiger identifies Puerto Vallarta as tropical by determining the closeness to the equator and plant classification.
Because Puerto Vallarta is on the same latitude as Hawaii the weather is very similar. The large body of the Pacific Ocean will create many changes in the wave currents thus trying to determine a reliable forecast is sometimes difficult.
The weather is very dry from November to May which is considered peak winter season in Puerto Vallarta. However the last few years Vallarta has experienced global climate changes as the rest of the world. In October 2002, Kenna was the last hurricane to impact Puerto Vallarta’s downtown shoreline. There were few injuries and no deaths caused by the hurricane.
