Puerto Vallarta residents now have a more convenient option for passport processing with the inauguration of the city’s long-awaited Passport Office. Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González led the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday morning, celebrating the modern facility located within the Puerto Mágico shopping center at km 4.5 of Francisco Medina Ascencio Boulevard and Heroica Escuela Naval Avenue in the North Hotel Zone.
Council members Marcia Raquel Báñuelos Macias, Laurel Carrillo Ventura, and Magdalena Urbina attended the event, along with municipal trustee Francisco Sánchez Peña and Paula Celina Lomelí Ramírez, director of the municipal liaison office with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As of March 18, the office operates daily, including weekends, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, making it easier for residents and visitors to apply for new passports or renew existing ones. Documents will be sent to Tepic for processing, with an estimated return time of four to five business days.
Designed with comfort and efficiency, the new office features a children’s area, a nursery, a meeting room, four interview windows – including one adapted for wheelchair users – biometric data capture equipment, a security filter, and a cashier station. Mayor Munguía emphasized the importance of this new space, highlighting its accessibility and the benefits of its prime location next to the maritime terminal.
“Today is an important day for tourism and the community,” he stated. “This office meets all requirements set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, offering a well-equipped, spacious, and modern environment for passport processing.”
The mayor expressed gratitude to the director of Puerto Mágico for providing a high-quality facility, describing it as a dynamic hub that reflects the growth of Puerto Vallarta. Vicente Aguilar, representing Puerto Mágico, underscored the office’s potential to serve Puerto Vallarta and nearby municipalities. He announced plans to pursue sub-delegation status with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to citizens from other regions.
“It is an honor to contribute to this city and its people,” Aguilar said. “This facility ensures that passport services are provided in the dignified setting Vallarta deserves, and we are working towards becoming a sub-delegation to enhance these services even further.”
