Puerto Vallarta Among Safest Tourist Destinations in Mexico
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – According to the most recent National Survey of Urban Public Safety performed by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) to determine Mexicans’ perception of danger in the cities where they live, Puerto Vallarta is among the ten safest tourist destinations in Mexico.
Every year during the first two weeks of March, June, September, and December, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) conducts a National Urban Public Security Survey to determine the public’s perception of personal safety and security in cities throughout Mexico.
During the past few months, the perception of danger among Mexicans has increased and the study showed that 67.4% of Mexicans over 18 years old feel unsafe in their home cities.
The most recent results – published earlier this month – represent the second quarter of the year 2022, and compared to the first quarter results – published in April – the numbers have increased, with Mexicans feeling more insecure, especially in certain destinations.
The study considered 75 cities, the circumstances when people feel more unsafe, the crimes reported, crimes witnessed, historic data, and more. According to the latest report, 76.5% of the population feel unsafe at ATMs on public streets, 70.9% in public transportation, 62.6% at the bank, and 59.5% on streets they frequent.
According to the June survey, the 10 most unsafe and the 10 safest destinations in Mexico, based on residents’ perception, are as follows:

Residents in Puerto Vallarta have been feeling more fearful during the past few months. In the first quarter of 2022, 26.4 percent of interviewees felt unsafe while in the most recent report that number increased to 41.0 percent, but it is still among the popular destinations where people feel safest in Mexico.
