El Pitillal, Puerto Vallarta’s most populous district, is preparing for a month filled with tradition, culture, and community pride as the Fiestas Patrias and the patron saint festivities of San Miguel Arcángel come together this September. The program features parades, pageants, concerts, pilgrimages, and religious events, offering something for everyone to enjoy.
Municipal delegate Arnulfo Esparza Muñoz, joined by parish priest Francisco Javier Santiago Dueñas and community leaders Javier Catalina Villaseñor and José Guadalupe Magaña Santoyo, extended an invitation to residents and visitors from surrounding neighborhoods to take part in the celebrations.
The festivities begin on August 31 with a carnival parade through the main streets, concluding in the plaza with the presentation of candidates for Queen of Fiestas Patrias. The pageant continues with events on September 7 and 13, when the queen and her princesses will be crowned during a lively ceremony followed by a dance. Eight young women have registered for the competition, which highlights beauty, expression, and knowledge of history and traditions.
For the second consecutive year, El Pitillal will also host the Gay Queen of Fiestas Patrias contest on September 12, organized by the Office of Sexual Diversity. This inclusive event underscores the district’s celebration of diversity and community spirit.
The national independence celebrations will begin on September 14 with a music event featuring well-known 90s DJs. On September 15, the community will gather for the traditional Grito de
Independencia (Cry of Independence), which will include a live reenactment, a torch-lit parade, and an homage to the heroes of independence in the El Pitillal square. The night will conclude with fireworks and live music by the band Perla Negra.
The morning of September 16 will feature a parade, with a lucha libre wrestling event in the evening. The traditional folk dance will take place on September 17.
On September 21, the novena in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel will begin with daily religious services and pilgrimages. Each day will start with an early morning mass at 6:00 a.m., followed by a community breakfast.
The festivities will reach their peak on September 29, the patron saint’s feast day. A procession of charros will lead into a Mass officiated by the bishop, followed by the arrival of the torch of San Miguel El Alto and the traditional burning of a castillo. The night will conclude with a grand festival featuring mariachis, clowns, folkloric ballet, artists, and live bands, bringing the month-long celebration to a joyous close.
With a rich blend of civic, cultural, and spiritual traditions, El Pitillal is set to celebrate September with the joy and unity that define Puerto Vallarta’s most spirited community. https://banderasnews.com/
