On October 30th Daylight Savings Time Ended in Most of Mexico
With 59 votes in favor, 25 against, and 12 abstentions, the Mexican Senate approved the proposal sent by the Chamber of Deputies in September to eliminate daylight saving time in the country.
With this vote, the Senate has permanently put an end to daylight saving time, a measure that has been in place since 1996. As of October 30, 2022, Mexico’s clocks will always be set to Standard Time, in contrast to other countries such as the United States, which is looking to maintain Daylight Savings Time on a permanent basis.
As of October 30, the time for the entire country will be based on the different time zones recognized in the national territory, with the exception of the 33 municipalities that share a border with the United States. Those municipalities will continue to observe a daylight light-saving time pattern consistent with the United States, in order not to affect trade.
But for the rest of the country, starting next week U.S. and Mexico clocks will not be in sync, something visitors may find useful to know – especially those arriving by cruise ship or airplane.
At Puerto Vallarta’s Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport, flight itineraries will be rescheduled to avoid delays and confusion for passengers, and all of the information screens in the national and international corridors, terminals, waiting rooms, and shopping areas will be adjusted, detailing arrivals, departures and flight status.
Airport directors will coordinate with service companies that operate at the airfield to change flight schedules and inform passengers about flight rescheduling.
