The Tepic-Compostela highway is on track for completion, with 87% of construction finalized and full delivery expected by October 31, 2025. Officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), along with project developer Motangil México, confirmed the update this week.
Spanning 26 kilometers, the four-lane highway will cut travel time between Tepic and Compostela from 50 minutes to just 25. A 2.4-kilometer branch will also connect directly to the Tepic-Riviera Nayarit International Airport, making regional travel more efficient.
The highway project includes 10 bridges, railroad crossings, a toll plaza, and side shoulders—all designed to provide safer, faster journeys through Nayarit’s scenic countryside. In addition to supporting local commuters, the highway is expected to play a major role in promoting tourism and commerce.
Beyond its immediate benefits for local commuters, the highway is poised to transform tourism and commerce. It will make it easier for people to reach popular coastal destinations in Nayarit, such as the historical town of San Blas, the surfing hotspot of Sayulita, and the luxurious resorts of Punta Mita.
