Puerto Vallarta’s emergency response network is receiving an important boost thanks to a contribution from the private sector that will help strengthen Civil Protection operations throughout the municipality.
Mayor Luis Munguía recently recognized the Juan de la Cosa company, owner of the Marigalante Pirate Ship, for donating 200,000 pesos to support Civil Protection efforts. The company also honored the Civil Protection personnel, Navy members, and local boat operators who took part in rescue and recovery operations following the sinking of the Marigalante last October.
According to Munguía, the donation will be directed toward the purchase of equipment and response vehicles, providing additional resources for emergency crews as Puerto Vallarta enters the peak rainy and hurricane season. He said investments of this kind help improve readiness and allow first responders to act more effectively when severe weather or other emergencies arise.
The mayor noted that cooperation between local government and the private sector can produce lasting benefits for public safety. In a destination that welcomes millions of visitors each year while maintaining an active coastal economy, having reliable emergency resources is essential.
Munguía also praised businessman Fernando González Corona and the partners of Juan de la Cosa for supporting the city’s emergency services while recognizing the dedication of those who participated in the Marigalante rescue efforts. He said the acknowledgment reflects appreciation for the difficult work carried out under demanding conditions at sea.
The mayor pointed to the significant changes made within Civil Protection during the current administration. He recalled that when municipal officials first evaluated the department, it faced serious equipment shortages and operational limitations.
Since then, the city has expanded its emergency fleet and invested in new resources. Puerto Vallarta now operates six fire trucks, five of which were acquired during Munguía’s administration. The municipality has also added three jet skis for ocean rescue operations, giving lifeguards greater mobility and faster access to emergencies in the water.
Beach safety has also been reinforced through the installation of 12 lifeguard towers along the coastline. These additions are designed to improve surveillance, strengthen prevention efforts, and provide faster assistance when needed.
Munguía said the city will continue prioritizing investments in Civil Protection, with a focus on maintaining modern equipment, reliable infrastructure, and well-trained personnel.
