Christmas is one of the big festivals that are overwhelmingly celebrated across the world. In every country, a number of special program and parties are held to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ, the Prophet of God. Like all other countries, in Mexico as well, plenty of exciting arrangements can be seen even days before Christmas.
In Mexico, the festivities of Christmas officially start with a series of nine parties that are collectively called “Posadas”. In this novenario, nine religious days are observed from 16th to 24th of Decemeber. People from Mexico and different other neighboring countries take their active part in these 9 days of observance.
It is widely believed that they were Spanish priests who invented Posadas. Spanish priests began holding nine masses before Christmas as an attempt to convert the locals to Chatolicism. Due the similar timing of the celebrations of Christmas and the birth of the Aztec god of war, Huitzilopochtli, both the events melded and eventually merged into one.
It is firmly believed that the tradition of modern Pinata was invented at the same time when Christmas inns were invented in Acolman de nezahualcoyotl. The celebration of “Masses of” or “Posadas” was started in 1586 when the Augustinian friars of Acolman got the authorization of Pope Sixtus V.
“Pinata” was also introduced in those masses by friars. The people of that time used Pianata an an allegory for the purpose of helping in the efforts to evangelize the region. The original piñata seven peaks with a shape of a star. The bright colors of the piñata presented the temptations while the seven peaks representing the seven deadly sins.
Today, Christmas is widely celebrated in Mexico. The celebrations start from 12th December and ends on the 6th of January. On this particular event, thousands of people from the United States and other countries spend all inclusive holidays in Mexico and make fully enjoy Christmas here in this country.
