Nearly a year and a half into her historic presidency, Claudia Sheinbaum has once again earned global recognition. The Mexican leader has been included for the second consecutive year on the prestigious Time 100 Most Influential People in the World list, highlighting her growing international presence.
Sheinbaum made history as Mexico’s first woman president when she took office, and her continued appearance on the annual list reflects her leadership and influence across the region. In her profile, British journalist Ioan Grillo described Sheinbaum as “one of the most popular leaders in the region,” noting her strong public support and visibility on the global stage.
This year’s list features a wide range of leaders, advocates, artists, and public figures from around the world. Among them are Sanae Takaichi, recognized as Japan’s first female prime minister; Mari Luz Canaquiri Murayari, known for her environmental and community advocacy; and Kica Matos, president of the National Center for Immigration Law and the Immigration Justice Fund.
Latin America was also represented by several cultural figures, including actors Benicio del Toro and Wagner Moura, as well as singer Rauw Alejandro. The global list also included well-known personalities such as designer Ralph Lauren, actor Ben Stiller, model Anok Yai, actress Kate Hudson, politician Zohran Mamdani, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Each honoree on the Time list is accompanied by a profile written by influential voices from various fields. Contributors this year included Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, singer Taylor Swift, and businesswoman Paris Hilton, reflecting the broad range of perspectives represented.
Time has a long history of featuring Mexican presidents on its pages. Before Sheinbaum, former President Enrique Peña Nieto appeared on the magazine’s cover in 2014 with the headline “Saving Mexico,” following the approval of several major reforms during his administration.
Earlier presidents featured by the publication include Miguel de la Madrid, who appeared on the cover in 1982 promoting “austerity, efficiency, and above all, honesty,” along with leaders such as José López Portillo, Adolfo López Mateos, Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, Miguel Alemán Valdés, Lázaro Cárdenas, Plutarco Elías Calles, Pascual Ortiz Rubio, and Manuel Ávila Camacho.
