The streets of Puerto Vallarta are set to transform into a hub of community spirit and fitness this spring. DIF Vallarta, under the leadership of Lucky Michel, has officially announced the second annual Carrera por la Niñez (“Race for Children”) 2026.
Scheduled for Sunday, May 31, this charitable fun run invites residents and visitors to gather on Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue at 8:00 am to support a meaningful cause.
The event focuses on much more than just crossing a finish line. By encouraging physical activity and strengthening family connections, the race aims to foster deep social awareness regarding the needs of those living with disabilities. Organizers anticipate a diverse turnout of approximately 1,200 participants, ranging from professional athletes to families enjoying a morning stroll.
During a recent press conference, Zaira Castillón, director of DIF Vallarta, outlined the inclusive nature of the competition. The event offers both 2-kilometer and 5-kilometer routes, ensuring that individuals of all fitness levels can participate. Categories are thoughtfully designed to include everyone, featuring divisions for children, open runners, and masters, alongside specific categories for wheelchair users and those with visual impairments.
For a registration fee of 320 pesos, participants will receive an official race t-shirt inspired by World Cup designs and a commemorative medal that celebrates the local identity of the city. These contributions serve a vital purpose, as the proceeds are dedicated to the Comprehensive Care Program for People with Disabilities (PAID). The funds will facilitate the purchase of essential mobility aids, such as wheelchairs and crutches, directly enhancing the daily lives of children within the program.
Community members ready to lace up their running shoes can register at several convenient locations, including the DIF Vallarta headquarters, the Vallarta Institute of Culture, the Municipal Sports Council, and the SIPPINA Children’s Directorate.
