Starting October 1, 2025, a new tool called the User Transaction Amount (MTU) will be available in all banking apps across Mexico. The MTU allows individuals to set a personal daily limit on the amount of money they can transfer from their banking apps. This new feature applies to a wide range of digital activities, including card transactions, transfers, utility bill payments, and transactions using services like SPEI or CoDi. By enabling this option, users can create an extra layer of security, as their bank will be better equipped to detect and flag any unusual or suspicious activity.
While the regulation goes into effect on October 1, 2025, customers are not required to set a limit. However, banks are now mandated to offer this setting to all users. To take advantage of this new tool, customers can access their bank’s app, navigate to the “Transfers” or “Payments” section, and adjust their daily limit to an amount that fits their financial habits.
For those who do not set a personal limit by the end of September, a default limit will be automatically applied by banks starting on January 1, 2026. This default amount will be set at 1,500 UDIs (Investment Units), which is approximately 12,800 pesos. It’s essential to note that this initial limit can be adjusted at any time by the customer, providing full flexibility to meet their financial needs.
