The Vallarta Botanical Garden has launched an urgent fundraising campaign to protect its rare and endangered orchids from frequent power outages during the rainy season. With thousands of delicate plants in carefully controlled environments, a sudden loss of electricity could destroy years of conservation work in just hours.
The Garden’s in vitro lab and greenhouses require stable conditions to keep their collections alive, especially after the opening of a new greenhouse last year. Each time the power goes out, not only are the plants at risk, but operations are disrupted, and valuable tourism revenue is lost.
To prevent this, the Garden is raising USD 20,000 to purchase a back-up electrical generator, which will keep vital systems running during outages. Thanks to a generous longtime supporter, every dollar donated will be matched – doubling the impact of each contribution. The total cost of the generator is USD 40,000, and the donor has pledged to cover half if the community can help raise the other half by July 31.
Installing a generator will ensure that the Garden can continue its conservation efforts, educational programs, and guest services without interruption.
