The construction of the Amado Nervo Bridge, a crucial project connecting Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas, has been delayed once again. The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) has moved the contract award date to July 15, with work now scheduled to begin on July 16.
This marks the second delay in recent weeks. The project was originally scheduled to begin on June 25, then postponed to June 30, and now faces further setbacks. Although the contract is expected to be awarded on July 15, immediate construction the following day remains uncertain.
Also known as the Ameca River Bridge, the project has been in planning since 2015. Backed by an investment of 900 million pesos, the bridge is set to deliver major benefits to local transportation, commerce, and daily life for residents of both Jalisco and Nayarit.
The design includes an 800.4-meter-long structure with four traffic lanes—two in each direction—along with side shoulders and a central barrier. With a total width of 20 meters, the bridge will also include 1.55 kilometers of access roads on both sides, offering smooth connectivity to Avenida Federación and surrounding areas.
Once construction begins, the project is expected to take 546 calendar days, aiming for completion by the end of 2026. Upon opening, the bridge will greatly ease traffic, shorten travel times, and support economic activity throughout the Banderas Bay region.
