As part of the final preparations, a community clean-up day will occur on March 8 at 7:30 am. Volunteers are welcome to join participating hoteliers, beach vendors, and public officials, who will come together to help ensure Playa de Oro meets certification standards. Councilman Christian Omar Bravo Carbajal, who leads the Commission for Free, Clean, and Certified Beaches, emphasized that numerous clean-up campaigns have been conducted across beaches, rivers, and streams. These initiatives have significantly reduced waste reaching the ocean, with 12 clean-up events so far collecting over 100 tons of garbage with the help of approximately 1,600 volunteers.
While community participation has been strong, officials continue to encourage greater environmental awareness. A clean city, they remind residents, is not one that simply collects the most trash, but one where waste generation is minimized.
Playa de Oro, located in the North Hotel Zone near the Puerto Vallarta Maritime Terminal, has long been a favorite for locals and visitors alike. Jonathan Nacar Muñoz, ecology supervisor, confirmed that the certification process is in its final stage.
